What's Happening At The Totem Lake Wetlands Today?

January 2005

      01/30/05  3PM Sprinkles, 48 degrees.  Green-winged Teals, Am. Crows, Mallards,
     Spotted Towhees, Song Sparrows, Marsh Wren, Am. Robins, Gadwalls,
     Black-capped Chickadees, Buffleheads,
Ruby-crowned Kinglets,
     
Yellow-rumped Warblers (Audubon's), Am. Coot, Downy Woodpecker, E. Starlings
     and Red-winged Blackbirds.

     01/27/05  11AM Broken Clouds, 49 degrees. Green-winged Teals, Am. Crows, Mallards,
     Spotted Towhee, Song Sparrows, Bewick's Wren, Am. Robins, Gadwalls, Ring-billed Gull,
     Black-capped Chickadees, Buffleheads,
Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Yellow-rumped Warblers
     (Audubon's) and Am. Goldfinches.

     01/25/05  Partly Cloudy, 50 degrees. Bushtits, Green-winged Teals, Am. Crows,
     Belted Kingfisher, Mallards, Spotted Towhee, Song Sparrows, Bewick's Wren,
     Am. Robins, Gadwalls, N. Shovelers, Am. Coots, Ring-billed Gulls, Rock Pigeons,
     Black-capped Chickadees.

     01/21/05 Partly Cloudy, 57 degrees.  More Yellow-rumped Warblers arriving.
     A Double-crested Cormorant was fishing in the shallows of the overlook bay only
    10 feet from the boardwalk. Great close-up views.

     01/20/05 Cloudy and 54 degrees.  Nice view of a Red-tailed Hawk circling around
     the north end of the park.  Lots of Yellow-rumped Warblers could be found in the trees
     all along the boardwalk

No reports until after the 19th...going to the Morro Bay Bird Festival!

     01/10/05 No Totes report as I was at the Kent Ponds checking out the Baikal Teal.

     01/09/05 Snow  

     01/08/05 Cloudy and 37 degrees.  Great Blue Heron, Gadwalls, Mallards,
     Green-winged Teals, Buffleheads, Am. Coots, Ring-billed Gulls, Am. Crow,
     Am. Robin, Spotted Towhee
and Song Sparrow.

     01/07/05 Cloudy and 35 degrees.  Sharp-shinned Hawk, Am. Coots, Buffleheads,
     Double-breasted Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, Mallards, Green-winged Teals

     (predominate duck on the lake today), Glaucous-winged Gull,
     Black-capped Chickadee
and Am. Crow

     01/06/05 No Totes report today as I was checking out the Tufted Duck at
     Phantom Lake in Bellevue.

     01/05/05  Clear and 31 degrees, 1 PM.  Two thirds of the lake was covered by a thin sheet
     of ice which I noticed as I watched a Ring-billed Gull "walk" on the water.   This caused
     10 Green-winged Teals to group together in the unfrozen eastern portion of the lake.

     01/04/05 Clear and 35 degrees.  Frost on the boardwalk...be careful!  Am. Widgeon added
     to the list. (seen by Graham H.)  Green-winged Teals seen on the lake today.
  

     01/03/05 No Totes report today.  WOS meeting.

     01/02/05 Cold. Lots of Ruby-crowned Kinglets still hanging around.  More Buffleheads
     showing up as well as a nice pair of Hooded Mergansers.

     01/01/05 Happy New Year!  No Totes report today.
